Along with the De Havilland Vampire, the Gloster Meteor introduced the jet fighter to the RAF and the Meteor was the only Allied jet to see service in WWII, albeit briefly. Not only did this aircraft serve the RAF long and well, but was also operated by a number of foreign air forces and some were manufactured under licence offshore. Bond traces the development of the Meteor from its origins and testing, through the many different marks which included ground attack, night fighters and trainers, he summarises foreign use of the fighter, their deployment to Korea with the Australian Air Force and their operations in the Israel-Arab wars. A fine record or this early military jet. 164 pages including three appendices, abbreviations, select technical data and bibliography, the appendices cover British service operators, overseas operators and production and individual history lists, 11 colour photos, b/w photos throughout , plus photo album, drawings, including three views, side views and cockpit and detail sketches. Orange hard covers with gilt spine titles VG+. former owner stamp top contents page, text block otherwise NF. Pictorial DJ (colour front illustration) VG+ with light sunning spine area.
