My parents abandoned me a decade ago to the walls of this institution. They believed my troubled childhood mind was something sinister instead of homegrown or explainable. The truth is that my condition is complicated. It's messy and often misunderstood.
I've worn all types of labels over the years: non-believer, pariah, deranged, orphan... It's all in my file if you care to understand me better. However, the label that implanted the deepest and garnered the most attention is the one I wear, like a Scarlet Letter. It precedes me when I enter a room and gets whispered about like a schoolyard crush.
Paranoid Schizophrenic.
Dr. Sutton has some lofty ideas about my condition and claims mental illness is only one aspect of hundreds that make me who I am. Not one to shy away from a challenge, he thinks he can help me. His confidence is legendary, but I've carried this burden for a long time. Despite what he thinks, I can't be fixed.
He doesn't realize I'm falling for him or that I have some lofty ideas of my own. He should know better because people like me deserve a hero, too.
What Readers are saying:
"Sexy, smart and addictive! Oh my God. I need all future romance books to be this good. I was hooked from the very first page. It was sexy, smart, and addictive. Mercy is the most complex character I have come across in a while. I love how her mental illness doesn't define her, it's just one part of her. Their romance is hot, forbidden, and very very sexy. I loved this book!" -Cranky TBC
"One quick glance at the blurb of Mercy is all I needed to know that I had to get my hands on it! A religious cult, a doctor/patient taboo romance, and a paranoid schizophrenic heroine? Yes, please!" -Jessica ChatterBookBabe
"This story jumped to my #1 story of the year. It is one of the best written stories I have read in a long time."
"Heart-rending, stunning, and truly talented story-telling. "Story stayed with me...... This was one of the best books I have ever read. Raw, gritty & emotional, with great depth, fabulous characters & thoughts that will stay with you long after the book is over."
"Mind blowing story that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. Fingernail biting, breath holding suspense to make this the best book ever."
"I felt what Mercy went through & that's the sign of a good writer. To get the reader so consumed with a character, you're emotionally connected from the first chapter! Excellent read."
"It is refreshing that an author takes the time to build characters and make a reader fall in love with them. A taboo romance and some off the charts chemistry thrown into the mix along with some hot, hot scenes. I read this book in a day because I just couldn't put it down!!"
"I love every word K.C. Decker has ever put down. When I read this blurb I was absolutely sold on the forbidden/taboo romance aspect and the intrigue of Mercy & Sutton. This book left me breathless." -RocknRead719
"Read this phenomenal book now. Mercy and Sutton will take you on one heck ride through Mercy's life and you need to hear it. Their story will give you all the feels with some naughtiness. This book is so different from my normal reads, which makes it refreshing. I have never read KC Decker before and I think I have been missing out on her fantastic storytelling. You must read this book.
Amazing look into the human soul.
Impossible to put down. KC Decker's writing is phenomenal and right on point to bring the characters in Mercy to life. There is an intuition here that makes Mercy not only believable but had me feeling that I was right there. The candor and frankness of mental health is inspiring.” Book nerd.

**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first purchase with us, or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free.
