Enjoy these classics of Stoic philosophy they way they were meant to be read, together for the first time in this pocket-sized printing. The Enchiridion ("Handbook") is a collection the most powerful insights of Stoic philosopher Epictetus (55–135 CE). Compiled by his student Arrian and translated by Elizabeth Carter, the Handbook has endured for generations as a source of resilience and inspiration for readers. Marcus Aurelius's Meditations, a diary of thoughts to himself, contains an unflinching look into the mind of one of Rome's Four Good Emperors. Marcus (121–180 CE) is seen reminding himself of his duty to humanity and his place among the greater cosmos, writing with a passion, depth and clarity seldom seen in the world's leaders. The Meditations earns Marcus a place among the great moral sages of history: Confucius, Buddha, Socrates, and Jesus.
