FIRST EDITION. vii, 103 pp. Original stiff wrappers. Very Good. MARKOWITZ, Harry, 'The Utility of Wealth' (pp. 54-62). This paper first appeared in The Journal of Political Economy (Vol. 60, No. 2, April, 1952, pp. 151-58, Cowles Foundation Paper 57). 'Harry Markowitz asked a group of middle-class people whether they would prefer to have a smaller amount of money with certainty or an even chance of getting ten times that much. The answers he received depended on the amount of money involved. When only a dollar was offered, all of them gambled for ten, but most settled for a thousand dollars rather than try for ten thousand, and all opted for a sure million dollars' (Morton D. Davis, Game Theory: A Nontechnical Introduction, 1983, p. 60). The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 1990 was awarded jointly to Harry M. Markowitz, Merton H. Miller and William F. Sharpe 'for their pioneering work in the theory of financial economics.' Also includes papers by Robert R. Bush, R. D. Luce, J. Marschak, W. K. Estes, P. Lazarsfeld, et al.
