Descripción

Young grass geen floral-patterned kimono silk/boards covered with a band of hand-made, hand-crumpled Japanese Kozo-Mamigami paper with black title lettering. A cherrywood label, in the traditional shape and position for old Japanese books, shows the word "Ikebana" in Japanese calligraphy, done by Shunso Machi, a leading calligrapher in the mid-1900s. Covered with a clear, acetate dust cover. Decorative end papers show detail from a 12th-century scroll painting of a cherry-blossom viewing party. 272 pp. total with 131 color and bw plates (most color plates tipped in) in the introductory half of the book, including 1 gatefold color plate; and numerous color and bw illus. in the instructional half of the book, including 9 folding pages. Oversize and heavy. May require extra postage. Divided into two parts: Ikebana in Japanese Life, with 8 chapters and essays by Donald Richie; and Ikebana in the Home, with lessons from three "schools" by three different masters. Includes the basic techniques of Ikebana, a chronology of "The Long River of Ikebana," and a glossary-index. A beautiful book with thorough information and excellent instruction. VG+ but for a stain on the green silk front cover, just near/under the paper wrapper, near the bottom. Private, embossed library stamp of Clare Boothe Luce. N° de ref. de la librería 150658
