In this compilation of Calvin's writings, 'Marks of a Church', Calvin delves into the crucial characteristics that distinguish a genuine gathering of believers from those that are false or counterfeit. Drawing from Scripture and his keen theological insights, Calvin highlights the importance of adherence to the Word of God, the proper administration of the sacraments, and the faithful exercise of church discipline.

He emphasizes the importance of the pure preaching of the Word of God as the primary mark of a faithful church. The true church is characterized by the faithful exposition of Scripture, which leads to the edification and growth of believers. He warns against the dangers of false teaching and highlights the necessity of staying grounded in the Word to discern truth from error.

Calvin further emphasizes the significance of the proper administration of the sacraments, particularly baptism and the Lord's Supper. These sacraments should be faithfully and reverently practiced, as they serve as visible signs of God's grace and covenantal relationship with His people. He also touches upon the importance of church discipline, underscoring the need for a loving and firm approach in addressing sin and maintaining the purity of the church.
