Paperback. HE WAS NOT BROKEN. HE WAS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. Arjun Krishnamurthy has spent his entire adult life being excellent at work and invisible everywhere else. From a cramped middle-class home where love arrived in packed lunches rather than spoken words, he built himself into a man of discipline, precision, and carefully maintained distance. He does not make friends easily. He does not ask for anything. He has carried a secret notebook for three years - the one that holds his real ambition - and shown it to no one. At a mid-sized corporate firm in urban India, Arjun's walls begin their slow, reluctant dismantling. A cross-departmental project forces him into the world. A fast-reading strategist occupies his lunch table and eventually his thinking. A loud, warm colleague attaches himself to Arjun with loyalty and emotional intelligence in equal measure. Through a promotion he almost doesn't know how to accept, a piece of gossip he refuses to pass on, and one conversation he spends months building the courage to have, Arjun discovers the most inconvenient truth of his carefully constructed life: The walls he built to protect himself were the same ones keeping everything worth having out. The Man Who Built Himself is a quiet novel about a loud world. About ambition, silence, and the particular loneliness of the Indian urban professional. About what it actually takes to let people in. Perfect for readers of Aravind Adiga, Fredrik Backman, and Sally Rooney. If you've ever eaten lunch alone by choice. If you've built something real and told no one. If you are, in any way, still under construction - this book is for you. This item is printed on demand.
