"The Making of the English Constitution 1449-1485" provides a detailed examination of the developmental shifts in England's legal and political frameworks during a period of immense internal strife. Covering the turbulent years of the mid-to-late fifteenth century, Albert Beebe White explores how the English constitution evolved amidst the chaos of the Wars of the Roses and the transition between the House of Lancaster and the House of York.

The work meticulously analyzes the roles of the monarchy, the burgeoning power of Parliament, and the shifting landscape of common law. By focusing on this specific window of history, White illustrates how administrative and judicial precedents were established despite-and sometimes because of-political instability. This scholarly study sheds light on the foundational elements that would eventually shape the modern British parliamentary system. Readers interested in legal history, medieval politics, and the structural evolution of the state will find this an invaluable resource. The book serves as a critical link in understanding how the medieval English state navigated the pressures of dynastic conflict to refine its constitutional identity.
