A city man longs for a simpler life, and this sharp, funny tale follows his bold move to the countryside.
Set around a restless young executive and his wife, the story traces how urban routine clashes with the pull of country living. The couple navigates new neighbors, auctions, and the practical chaos of upgrading a rural home, all while balancing work, family, and changing dreams. It blends wry humor with quiet moments of insight, offering a vivid glimpse at life beyond the city limits.
- Follow a translated dream from city routine to rural renewal, with humor along the way.
- Experience how neighbors, auctions, and old rooms shape a new home and new habits.
- Meet a cast of memorable characters who highlight the clash between old ways and fresh ambitions.
- See how friendship, memory, and a changing sense of place influence a family’s choices.
Ideal for readers who enjoy domestic realism with warmth, wit, and a carefuleye on what makes a house feel like home.

Reseña del editor
The story told in this book claims only to be the record of an ordinary man's experience and success in his efforts to make a home for himself in the country.
It was believed by the writer that it would be a merit to keep the narrative as close as possible to actual facts, and not avail himself of any more romance than usually falls to the lot of an ordi nary and thrifty man, who perhaps is often a good deal of a hero, though he is himself hardly aware of it, and is not usually celebrated in literature.
If there are any small recompenses in this hu'mble hero's endeavours growing out of the everyday facts of life, and his task is lit by some homely but enduring gleams, the book may encourage and stimulate other ordinary men who have the capacity to long for a home. Such is the hope as well as the purpose of the author.
