nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - You have been there.A school after midnight. An empty mall under fluorescent lights. A hotel corridor at 3 a.m. A parking garage that feels endless. Nothing is broken. Nothing is overtly threatening. And yet the place feels wrong-as if the building itself has slipped out of its proper category and is now waiting for something that will never arrive.Liminality: The Horror of Being Between Things is a sustained exploration of that precise sensation. Drawing on anthropology (Victor Turner and the 'betwixt and between'), cognitive science (prediction error and the brain's hunger for categories), architecture, digital culture, and the long tradition of the uncanny, Calder Ash maps the quiet dread that arises whenever stable classifications fail. From physical thresholds and empty institutional spaces to adolescence, the stranger, the doppelgänger, the undead, dreams, the dead internet, and the artificial person who may or may not be a person, the book shows that liminality is not a niche aesthetic. It is a structural feature of existence. We are comfortable only when we know what things are, where they are, and what they are supposed to be doing. Horror begins the moment those coordinates slip.Clear, rigorous, and written with the cool precision of its subject, Liminality turns the viral language of 'liminal spaces' into a full philosophical and cultural investigation. It is for readers who have felt the wrongness of an empty concourse, the unease of a repeating corridor, or the categorical vibration of an AI conversation-and want to understand why.We are all, in one way or another, between things.…
