First edition, first issue. Octavo. Large paper copy (24 x 16cm), the leaves slightly taller than the Abbey and Suzannet copies. 'One of the best of the imitations of Pierce Egan's Life in London' - Abbey. 'The pictures are extremely spirited and true, and are all the more wonderful in view of the fact that the artist's continental experiences were limited to one day spent in Boulougne' -Hardie. pp. xxiv,489,[1]. Without the half-title & final 'To the binder' leaf which Tooley notes is often missing. pp.143/4 here present in both cancelled & uncancancelled states, pp.335/6 in uncancelled state. With 21 coloured aquatints and 22 engravings on wood on the letterpress by George Cruikshank. Some occasional light foxing, one preface leaf with a marginal thumb-size mark, small area of loss to outer magin on one leaf of text, but not affecting text. A handsome copy bound in later 19th C full red morocco by Morrell, the spine in six panels richly gilt, the boards with triple lines, the dentelles richly decorated, the leading joint very neatly & almost imperceptably re-hinged.
