'The feeling of loving a dog and to be loved by a dog is something that is not easily described in words, and I seriously doubt it can be understood by those that haven’t experienced it. Yet, in his book The Life and Adventures of Bert, Ross Anderson Graham manages to convey the mutual love, friendship and bond between a dog and his human to print. I had the pleasure of being one of Bert’s first followers on Twitter. His good looks and resemblance to my own Labrador was what caught my eye. But what kept my attention was Graham's excellent writing, his short descriptions of Bert’s activities and his character. In those short texts, the special bond the two of them shared was evident. When I heard that Graham was writing a book about Bert, I was quite excited and had my hopes set up. I had the privilege of reading the book before publication and it certainly did not disappoint. The Life and Adventures of Bert is beautifully written and full of humour and love, but also sadness and longing as well as hope and joy. It will make you laugh out loud, and it will make you cry. It will make you want to have a dog if you don’t have one already or want to give the one(s) you have extra hugs. It will make you want to go out and enjoy life.
