Paperback. Most people do everything they were told to do. They work hard. They stay honest. They endure. They trust the people around them. They follow the map that was handed to them in childhood and walk with it faithfully for decades, believing that if they hold up their end of the bargain, life will hold up its end too. It doesn't always work that way. You Were Lied To: The Truth About Life No One Tells You is not a self-help book. It is not a motivational book. It is something rarer and more necessary - an honest book. Told through the life of Harold, a man in his sixties who did everything right and still arrived at the end of the road with questions nobody prepared him for, this book dismantles twelve of the most deeply embedded lies that society hands to people before they are old enough to question them. The lie that hard work guarantees reward. The lie that love stays with those who deserve it. The lie that money fixes what is broken. The lie that time heals everything. The lie that a good life means a full life. And the hardest one of all - that there is a finish line, and happiness is waiting on the other side of it. This book will not tell you it gets better. It will not give you a five-step plan. What it will do is look you in the eye and tell you the truth that most books are too comfortable to say. You were handed a map someone else drew from a place they had never been. This book is an attempt to draw a more accurate one. For the person who is tired in a way that sleep does not fix. For the person who has done everything right and still feels like something is missing. For anyone who has ever sat quietly with the gap between what they were promised and what they actually found.
