Paperback. Isabela Nogueira-Nelson has built her whole career on being the one person in the room who never comes apart. Six weeks to salvage the tape archive of Millhaven's defunct radio station before the building comes down - clean, contained, professionally invisible. What she doesn't expect is for her own hands to start moving on their own the moment she touches the reels, tracing a stranger's motion, chasing a truth that isn't supposed to be hers to carry.Samir Haddad has spent eleven years alone at the helm of his family's horse-therapy farm, guarding a promise he made his dying grandfather and refusing, on principle, to let anyone close enough to see how much the weight of it costs him. He has no patience for a woman with a lanyard and a lawyer's vocabulary poking around a history he's sworn to protect - until he can't stop noticing that she's the first person in years who refuses to let him hide behind his own calm. Then Isabela's hands lead her to the truth buried in her own family for fifty-five years: a hidden radio code, a resister named Caleb who never made it home, and a great-aunt who has spent half a century not knowing whether her own brother was the one who betrayed him.As a development company's demolition deadline collides with a farm under threat, a town divided over a war it never officially fought, and a promise Samir has kept in complete silence, Isabela has to decide whether being the calm, careful archivist of everyone else's grief is protecting her family - or finally the only thing still standing in the way of healing it.Some truths don't stay buried just because carrying them alone once felt like love. A warm, deeply researched small-town Canadian romance about the courage it takes to stop keeping the people you love safe from the truth, and start giving it to them instead. Isabela Nogueira-Nelson has built her whole career on being the one person in the room who never comes apart. Six weeks to salvage the tape archive of Millhaven's defunct radio station before the building comes down - clean, contained, professionally invisible. What she doesn't expect is for her own hands to start moving on their own the moment she touches the reels, tracing a stranger's motion, chasing a truth that isn't supposed to be hers to carry.
Samir Haddad has spent eleven years alone at the helm of his family's horse-therapy farm, guarding a promise he made his dying grandfather and refusing, on principle, to let anyone close enough to see how much the weight of it costs him. He has no patience for a woman with a lanyard and a lawyer's vocabulary poking around a history he's sworn to protect - until he can't stop noticing that she's the first person in years who refuses to let him hide behind his own calm.
Then Isabela's hands lead her to the truth buried in her own family for fifty-five years: a hidden radio code, a resister named Caleb who never made it home, and a great-aunt who has spent half a century not knowing whether her own brother was the one who betrayed him.
As a development company's demolition deadline collides with a farm under threat, a town divided over a war it never officially fought, and a promise Samir has kept in complete silence, Isabela has to decide whether being the calm, careful archivist of everyone else's grief is protecting her family - or finally the only thing still standing in the way of healing it.
Some truths don't stay buried just because carrying them alone once felt like love. A warm, deeply researched small-town Canadian romance about the courage it takes to stop keeping the people you love safe from the truth, and start giving it to them instead.

Acerca del autor
About the Author
Felix N.BBA.MA.QA'rb. writes fiction that treats ordinary communities as the site of extraordinary moral weight - small towns and mid-sized cities where a single formula, a single silence, or a single inherited decision turns out to carry the whole history of who a place has chosen to protect and who it has chosen to let go quiet.
Felix's work returns often to the same conviction: that injustice rarely announces itself as villainy. It arrives instead as policy, as process, as the reasonable-sounding choice a frightened, well-intentioned person makes under pressure - and that fiction's job is to make that choice visible again, long after the institutions built on top of it have learned to call it normal.
Felix lives close enough to water to never quite stop thinking about what it remembers.
