A major contribution to Humanistic Judaism liturgy, The Liberated Haggadah provides a fun and meaningful Passover celebration for friends and families who seek a Seder that is honest about what we believe: that it is solely up to people to make positive changes in the world.

Founded in the 1960s, Humanistic Judaism is a movement of secular and cultural Jews who derive great meaning from Jewish traditions and focus on the real history of the Jewish people. We replace worship of the supernatural with ritual and liturgy that speaks to the human experience, creating an authentic way to express Jewish identity in harmony with modern, universalist values.

As a recognized denomination of American Jewry, there are over thirty local Humanistic Judaism congregations and communities in the U.S. and Canada, as well as members of the Society for Humanistic Judaism from around the world (www.SHJ.org).

Rabbi Peter H. Schweitzer, author of The Liberated Haggadah and a leader in the Humanistic Judaism movement, served as rabbi of the New York City community, The City Congregation for Humanistic Judaism (www.CityCongregation.org).

This new edition includes updated, inclusive language and is lovingly illustrated with photographs of objects and ephemera from Rabbi Schweitzer’s renown personal collection of Jewish Americana, today housed at the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History.

We hope The Liberated Haggadah provides you with an inspiring Seder. Happy Passover! Chag Pesach Sameach!
