You never know when true love will find you... or when you’ll sniff it out!

Lexy, a senior pitbull, escaped an abusive situation and finally found a loving home with her adoptive Momma. But even in her new family, something was missing... Until Lexy found her soulmate: a stuffed toy shark named Bruce. Lexy and Bruce: The Love Letters tells the story of how this unlikely duo forged a deep friendship that would last a lifetime.

These love letters showcase Lexy and Bruce’s unique bond throughout Lexy’s latter years. In each letter, we read about Lexy and Bruce supporting each other through "thick and fin," whether the next challenge is a scary trip to "The Washer," a surprise visit to the hospital, or a battle with cancer. We also witness the true transformative power of love through Lexy and Bruce’s activism! Lexy, Bruce, and their Momma have travelled around North America to raise awareness about animal rescues and shark conservation. They have spoken at conferences, they have featured in books and calendars, and they are even social media sensations!

Now, for the first time, Lexy and Bruce’s friendship is brought to life on the page. Through their words and the artful pen of their Momma, Lexy and Bruce remind us of the wonderful things that happen when we open our hearts to the world.

Jenny Mackay started working on Lexy and Bruce: The Love Letters through a creative writing course with the University of British Columbia's Extended Learning program. Soon, this informal project became a way to deepen her family connection and give a voice to Lexy and Bruce's special bond.

Jenny lives in Vancouver, BC, with her partner, Mike. Their home is in the West End of the city, just two blocks from the beach where Lexy and Bruce had some of their favourite adventures. After losing Lexy to cancer in 2020, Jenny and Mike were able to open their hearts to another senior rescue pitbull named Caper.
