Neuware - 'Letters of Anne Thackeray Ritchie' offers an intimate and illuminating portrait of one of the most charming figures in nineteenth-century English letters. As the eldest daughter of the renowned novelist William Makepeace Thackeray, Anne Thackeray Ritchie (Lady Ritchie) occupied a unique position at the heart of London's literary and artistic society. This collection, carefully selected and edited by her daughter Hester Ritchie, spans her life from childhood through the early twentieth century. The correspondence provides more than just a glimpse into the private life of a celebrated novelist and essayist; it serves as a vivid historical record of the Victorian and Edwardian eras. Readers will find insightful observations and personal anecdotes involving some of the most prominent figures of the age, including Alfred Lord Tennyson, Robert Browning, and Thomas Carlyle. The letters are marked by the same wit, grace, and sensitivity that characterized Ritchie's own professional writings.By tracing her development from her father's constant companion to a respected literary matriarch, 'Letters of Anne Thackeray Ritchie' remains an essential resource for those interested in the social history of the British intelligentsia and the enduring legacy of the Thackeray family. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work was reproduced from the original artifact, and remains as true to the original work as possible. Therefore, you may see the original copyright references, library stamps (as most of these works have been housed in our most important libraries around the world), and other notations in the work. This work is in the public domain in the United States of America, and possibly other nations.
