Neuware - 'Legends of Highwaymen and Others' is a captivating collection of tales and folklore centered on the notorious figures who once haunted the roads and moors of old England. This work delves into the adventurous and often perilous lives of the legendary road agents who became fixtures of British popular imagination. From the daring exploits of famous outlaws to the lesser-known but equally fascinating rogues of the 18th and 19th centuries, the volume explores the fine line between historical reality and the myth-making found in public houses and broadside ballads.Through these narratives, readers are transported to an era of stagecoaches, dark heaths, and the chilling cry of 'stand and deliver.' The book captures the dual nature of the highwayman: the gentleman thief of high society's nightmares and the folk hero of the common people. Rich in atmosphere and local tradition, 'Legends of Highwaymen and Others' serves as an invaluable record of English social history and the enduring power of the outlaw legend. It is an essential read for those interested in historical crime, British folklore, and the romanticized history of the open road. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work was reproduced from the original artifact, and remains as true to the original work as possible. Therefore, you may see the original copyright references, library stamps (as most of these works have been housed in our most important libraries around the world), and other notations in the work. This work is in the public domain in the United States of America, and possibly other nations.
