2014 Reprint of 1961 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition. Not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. In this work Schwartz presents some mathematical models of the Leontief variety, most of which are intended to elucidate the causes of business cycles. The book consists of three parts: a discussion of the closed Leontief model; a theory of inventory cycles; and a discussion of a modified Walrasian system in the context of the existence of competitive equilibrium. The work is still important for understanding the use of mathematics in the study of economic events.
