Descripción del artículo del vendedor

Print on Demand. This book provides a record of the stately ceremonies surrounding the laying of the cornerstone of the Connecticut State Library and Supreme Court Building on 25th May 1909, a building of architectural splendor that was designed to house the books upon which laws are based and give them majesty. As the speeches delivered at the ceremony make clear, this building was in itself a monument to the momentous signing of the first constitutional document that used legislative proposal and popular ratification in the formation of civil government for a people inhabiting a generous territory â€" the signing that marked the birth of constitutional republics formed by the people for the people. From that document, the author argues, grew the fundamental conception of what is now known as the referendum. The ceremonies were presided over by the Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Connecticut, with prayers from the Grand Chaplain and participation from senior and junior officers of the Grand Lodge and other dignitaries. An extensive program of music, featuring patriotic selections, kicked off the event. The text includes a record of the list of memorials placed in the copper box deposited in the cornerstone, including the Connecticut Practice Book of 1908, a personal copy of the Connecticut Register and Manual of 1909 presented by the Deputy Secretary, and the United States and State Flags, among others. The address given by Chief Justice Simeon E. Baldwin explores the historical significance of this cornerstone laying, emphasizing the long history of a justice system based on law in Connecticut, and the importance of remembering the principles of justice as the state moves forward in coming years. For those interested in the history of law and government in the United States, this book will prove a fascinating exploration of an event that marked not only a building's construction but also the foundations of a nation. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.
