Two softcover books in a matte color-illustrated slipcase with black text on a pink spine. There is a pink ribbon attached to make removal of the books easier. The first book is matte pink with French flaps and black text on the spine. 56 pages with several color illustrations. The second book is matte green with French flaps and black text on the spine. 279 pages with many color illustrations. ["The box set contains two volumes published on the occasion of the exhibition The Last Portrait: Mazzini and Lega, Parallel Stories of the Risorgimento, set up in Rome at the Vittoriano from 31 May to 8 September 2024. The first volume, edited by Edith Gabrielli and with the historical consultancy of Giuseppe Monsagrati, focuses on The Last Moments of Giuseppe Mazzini, the famous painting by Silvestro Lega, exceptionally loaned by the Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, United States, to VIVE - Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia. The publication contains essays by Edith Gabrielli, Giuseppe Monsagrati, Maria Pia Critelli, Marco Pizzo, Giovanni Belardelli, Tsugumi Maki, Maureen C. O'Brien and Elisabetta Matteucci. Their contributions, on the one hand, explore the role that Mazzini attributed to traditional and mass communication, as well as to the control and diffusion of his public image, and on the other, illustrate the importance of Gli ultime momenti in the stylistic path of Silvestro Lega and in the entire imagery of the republican movement. The second, entitled Giovanni Spertini and an unpublished bust of Giuseppe Mazzini from 1878, is entirely dedicated to an important and recent acquisition of the VIVE. Edith Gabrielli's text places the marble bust in Spertini's artistic and professional path, relating it to the other works dedicated to Mazzini and, more generally, to the protagonists of the Risorgimento. Both volumes are characterized by a rich illustrative apparatus: the first, in particular, contains a sequence of portraits of Mazzini made with different artistic techniques and a real album on the painting by Silvestro Lega; the second, the results of the photographic campaign created for the occasion by Mauro Magliani."].
