8vo. 8.75 x 5.75 inches. xvi + Appendix, [4] pp. + 120 item figures with descriptive text opposite (i.e. 240 pp.). Bound in original blue cloth, gilt. A little wear to extremities, including corners and some foxing of flyleaves and title page; otherwise a very good copy with clean illustrations. Signature on first free endpaper. Illustrated by 8 plates in text, including frontispiece and by 120 plates in appendix. Well illustrated survey of the work of Staffordshire born engraver, Robert Hancock (1730-1817) and his work on Battersea and Staffordshire enamels and Bow and Worcester porcelain. At the Worcester Porcelain Works c.1756 to 1774, he drew and engraved plates for transfer-printed china. He left the company after a dispute and may have returned to the Staffordshire Potteries, later working in the medium of paper, concentrating on portraits and book illustrations. Founded by Patrick Marrin's father George in 1946, Marrin's Bookshop has been based in its current Folkestone location since 1963. Patrick has worked in bookselling since 1970. As well as rare antiquarian books, maps and prints, the stock includes a wide range of literature, library sets, travel, history and illustrated books in all fields.
