Descripción del artículo del vendedor

Franklin B. Mallory's near definitive reference to the historic Krag rifle, designed in late 19th century by Norwegians Ole Herman Johannes Krag and Erik Jørgensen. Famous for its smooth bolt operation and unique, side-loading magazine, the Krag most notably served as the first smokeless-powder, small-caliber repeating longarm adopted by the U.S. Army, which was looking to replace its obsolete, black-powder Trapdoor Springfield single-shot rifles. It saw prominent action during the Spanish American War but soon went up against Spanish troops armed with the 1893 7mm Spanish Mauser, which proved superior for its ability to be immediately reloaded with 5-round internal magazines instead of the one-by-one loading Krag. Forced to develop a rifle to level the playing field, the US Army soon issued a competitive replacement, and the Krag's dubious distinction was to suffer a fate of having the shortest service life of any standard-issue longarm in U.S. military history. After its decommission, hundreds of thousands of Krags were liquidated as cheap government surplus, but the rifle lived on to become highly prized by American civilian hunters and marksmen as a brilliantly engineered piece of firearms history. Collector's remain enthusiastic to this day. See attached image for the Table of Contents and list of many historic photos and diagrams. Also includes a complete bibliography and detailed index. 244 pp. 11 1/4" x 8 3/4". Tight, unmarked copy with minimal shelf wear and company ownership stamp to front pastedown. Lacks issued dust jacket. Photographs of or additional information about this item are available on request. All inquiries answered promptly.
