Knucklehead Mountain is the first book in a series that follows the adventures of Kai and his dog Koda. This “Great Big Adventure” began one evening when the author's grandson asked me to tell him a bedtime story. This, my friends, is that story.
The story takes Kai on an adventure up a mountain trail where Kai and Koda encounter strange trail features along that way.
Like many children, Kai’s imagination is very vivid. When we look at the world through the eyes of a child, we never know what may be around that next corner!
The illustrations in Knucklehead Mountain are by Afsaneh (Afy) Bagherloo, who is a talented artist from Milan, Italy.
The illustrations are based on pictures taken in the Pisgah Mountains of North Carolina. If you have visited this area, you may recognize areas of Linville Gorge, Wilson Creek, Bennet Gap Trail, Black Mountain Trail, Reasonover Creek, and other locations.
The real Kai and Koda live at the foot of the Pisgah Mountains and these are the trails they love to hike. They have proven to themselves, time and again, to be up to some great big adventures!
