In I Know Silly, a young feelings detective looks for clues to identify silliness, shyness, and embarrassment in himself and others. The boy feels silly when he plays with his siblings at a restaurant, shy when the server comes to take his order, and embarrassed when he spills his glass of water. By noticing the clues in his own body―a laughing face, eyes that want to look away, scrunched shoulders―the feelings detective can also recognize when his family members feel the same way.

Sometimes feelings can overwhelm us. I Know Silly helps readers develop skills they can use in these moments to regulate their emotions and feel better. “When I’m feeling shy, I ask my mom or dad or teacher to help me. My mom asks if I want to hold her hand or take a break. I choose both.” Like the other books in the We Find Feelings Clues series, I Know Silly:

• Introduces the concept of a Feelings Detective Notebook to help build emotional awareness, intelligence, and skills

The six books in the We Find Feelings Clues series help children learn how to use their bodies’ clues to identify and name their feelings and those of others. Clues are found in facial expressions and body language, sensations within the body, and knowledge of past experiences. After identifying an emotion, children also learn how they can feel better when their emotions are overwhelming. Each book features a child using their Feelings Detective Notebook to record their feelings through drawings and words, as well as additional information on recognizing and dealing with feelings. The books can stand alone or be used together as a classroom companion to Lindsay N. Giroux’s professional resource, Create an Emotion-Rich Classroom.

Lindsay N. Giroux, M.Ed., specializes in coaching preschool teachers on implementing the Pyramid Model to promote social-emotional development and prevent challenging behavior. She is the author of Create an Emotion-Rich Classroom: Helping Young Children Build Their Social Emotional Skills and the We Find Feelings Clues picture book series and the Feelings Head to Toe board book series, as well as a contributing author of Connect4Learning®, a Pre-K curriculum and the ChooseFI Pre-K financial literacy curriculum. Her professional interests include teacher training, social skill instruction, and inclusion of preschoolers with special needs. Lindsay received a B.A. from Wellesley College and an M.Ed. in Early Childhood Special Education from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. She is currently the Manager of Educational Quality: Inclusion & Behavior Support for Bright Horizons. She resides in Raleigh, NC with her husband and son.
