Neuware - 'John Saffin, His Book' is an invaluable collection of 17th-century writings that offers a direct window into the intellectual and social fabric of colonial New England. Compiled by John Saffin-a prominent merchant, poet, and judge-this commonplace book captures a diverse array of 'Various Matters of Divinity and State Affairs,' blending original verse with reflective prose entries. The text serves as a significant primary source, illustrating the religious fervor and political complexities of the Puritan era. Saffin's writings traverse a wide range of topics, from deeply personal theological meditations to astute observations on the legal and administrative evolution of the American colonies. His poetry, often characterized by the metaphysical style of the period, provides a rare example of early American literary expression, while his prose entries detail the daily concerns and ethical dilemmas faced by a public figure of his standing. By preserving Saffin's unique voice, this work provides readers with essential insights into the cultural, literary, and historical foundations of early America. 'John Saffin, His Book' stands as a testament to the sophisticated inner life of the colonial mind, making it a crucial resource for anyone interested in the history of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and the broader development of the early United States. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work was reproduced from the original artifact, and remains as true to the original work as possible. Therefore, you may see the original copyright references, library stamps (as most of these works have been housed in our most important libraries around the world), and other notations in the work. This work is in the public domain in the United States of America, and possibly other nations. Within the United States, you may freely copy and distribute this work, as no entity (individual or corporate) has a copyright on the body of the work.As a reproduction of a historical artifact, this work may contain missing or blurred pages, poor pictures, errant marks, etc. Scholars believe, and we concur, that this work is important enough to be preserved, reproduced, and made generally available to the public.
