Paperback. THE JARNELL LEGACY is a moving, unvarnished account of a Lincolnshire farming family whose lives were shaped by hard work, quiet endurance, and an unbreakable bond with the soil beneath their feet.Spanning more than a century, this deeply personal memoir follows the Jarnell family from the trenches of the First World War to the modern challenges of tenant farming under institutional landlords. At its heart are ordinary men and women who lived extraordinary lives: a grandfather who survived the Somme and returned to build a farm from nothing; a father whose devotion to land, livestock, and family never wavered; and a son determined to preserve their story before it is lost.Set in the foothills of the Lincolnshire Wolds, this is not a romanticised vision of rural England. It is a truthful, sometimes painful reflection on loss, faith, duty, and the cost of holding on to a way of life under increasing pressure. From childhood memories of village schools and church life to the realities of tenancy, grief, and generational responsibility, the book offers an intimate portrait of farming families rarely heard beyond their own communities. This book is ideal for readers interested in: Rural and social history of EnglandFamily memoirs rooted in lived experienceEnglish farming life and tenant farmingThe personal stories behind Britain's countrysideWritten with honesty and respect, The Jarnell Legacy is as much about remembrance as it is about inheritance. It is a testament to keeping one's word, to resilience in the face of change, and to the belief that a family's true wealth lies not in what it owns, but in the stories it passes on. THE JARNELL LEGACY is a moving, unvarnished account of a Lincolnshire farming family whose lives were shaped by hard work, quiet endurance, and an unbreakable bond with the soil beneath their feet.
Spanning more than a century, this deeply personal memoir follows the Jarnell family from the trenches of the First World War to the modern challenges of tenant farming under institutional landlords. At its heart are ordinary men and women who lived extraordinary lives: a grandfather who survived the Somme and returned to build a farm from nothing; a father whose devotion to land, livestock, and family never wavered; and a son determined to preserve their story before it is lost.
Set in the foothills of the Lincolnshire Wolds, this is not a romanticised vision of rural England.
This book is ideal for readers interested in:
- Rural and social history of England
- Family memoirs rooted in lived experience
- English farming life and tenant farming
- The personal stories behind Britain's countryside
Written with honesty and respect, The Jarnell Legacy is as much about remembrance as it is about inheritance. It is a testament to keeping one's word, to resilience in the face of change, and to the belief that a family's true wealth lies not in what it owns, but in the stories it passes on.
