BALLARD COLLECTION OF ORIENTAL RUGS. 1923, Metropolitan Museum of Art, 201 p., 192 black and white illustrations, 24.6 x 17 cm. This comprises the 129 rugs given by Ballard to the Metropolitan Museum of Art; there is a 71 page introduction, with a section on Turkish, Persian, Indian, Caucasian, Central Asian, Chinese and Spanish rugs, and then a catalog of the rugs, with description of colors, type of knot, knot count, material of pile, warp, weft and selvage and comments on the rug. Then plates of the rugs, either entire or a corner. The largest portion are Turkish, many of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries; Persian and Central Asian rugs tend to be 18th and 19th centuries.
