Ex. VIII. Let the teacher read an example for each member of the class, without waiting for a solution, - and then require the solution of each example in the order in which it was read.
Ex. Ix. Let the teacher require the class to m or stand in a cer tain position, and then dictate numbers to be added by them men tally and silently, thus: the teacher says, (the class being in an ex croise of fours,) Three, two, one, (we, four, to thirty or forty. When the teacher has finished, at a given signal all the class should raise their hands. Let the teacher require some one to give the sum, and all who agree with the result thus given to take down their hands. If any hands remain up, let the teacher call upon another, &c., until all are down, when he should announce the correct result. Care should be taken that this exercise be not so difficult as to prevent any from joining in it.
