sehr guter Zustand, geringe Gebrauchs- und Alterungsspuren: Schutzumschlag beschabt und defekt - Papier teils etwas vergilbt, aber Seiten sauber und ordentlich Here at last is a concise yet authoritative reference book which answers the many questions about Jewish life and history that arise daily in Jewish circles ? and especially among the young. For example. who may be called to read the Torah? What is the role of the Jewish woman? Why is a glass broken at Jewish weddings? Is there a concept of afterlife in Judaism? How did Israel gain its statehood? What effect did the Six-Day War have on Israel? The great personalities ?f Jewish history are also included in this comprehensive work: the scholars and sages of biblical times. the founders and leaders of modern Israel (Herzl. Weizmann, Ben-Gurion, Golda Meir, Moshe Dayan, Abba Eban), the scientists, musicians writers, and artists who have made great contributions all over the world ? Baruch Spinoza, Sholom Aleichem, Louis Brandeis, Albert Einstein, Marc Chagall, Artur Rubinstein, Leonard Bernstein, Philip Roth and many, many others. Indeed, the scope of this encyclopedia is impressive, for its hundreds of entries cover everything from antiquity to the 1970s. Moreover. special attention is given to the events of the past thirty years for the benefit of those readers particularly concerned with modern-day Judaism. Written in a lucid and readable style. The International Jewish Encyclopedia offers far more than abrupt definitions.
