A Briefer Course in Physiology Illustrated by Experiment presents practical, activity‑based science for less mature minds. This edition focuses on clear explanations, compact chapters, and essential hands‑on work, building understanding through observation, simple experiments, and guided dissection where appropriate. It emphasizes how the body functions as a whole, not just isolated parts, and relates ideas to daily health and hygiene.
What you’ll experience
- A practical, student-friendly path through the body’s systems, from muscles and nerves to circulation and digestion
- Short, accessible chapters with summaries and concrete examples
- Experiments, notes, and demonstrations that illustrate how organs work and how to stay healthy
What you’ll learn
- How the nervous, circulatory, and digestive systems cooperate to keep you active
- Basic concepts of respiration, excretion, nutrition, and the role of food
- Simple methods to observe, measure, and think critically about body function
Ideal for readers who want a solid, hands‑on grounding in physiology without heavy technical detail. Great for students, teachers, and anyone new to the subject who appreciates practical, age‑appropriate explanations.

Reseña del editor
Function, rather than structure, has been made promi nent. Only so much of anatomy as is really needed to understand the working of the organs has been introduced. The experimental work and directions for dissection, as well as some of the more difficult points, have been put in smaller type, so they may more readily be omitted where it is not possible to complete all the work in the given time.
Although hygiene has been given a prominent place, yet it may be claimed that when the pupil is well grounded in the functions of the different organs, from Observational and experimental work, many of the rules Of hygiene will readily Occur to him as natural inferences. When other rules for the preservation of health, which might not occur to him, are suggested, he will see their significance because he understands the underlying principle; and he not only can, but will, Obey the rule better because he sees reason in it, and does not follow it blindly as an arbitrary law thrust upon him. Questions are given, at the end of each chapter, to test the pupil's knowledge of principles by application to new cases.

Descripción de la tienda
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
