Neuware - Some armored vehicles are remembered for a single weapon, a famous battle, or an intimidating silhouette. The IS-2 rewards a deeper look. Its story reveals how the Soviet Union transformed hard-earned wartime lessons into a heavy tank built for breakthrough operations, fortified positions, urban combat, and the final offensives into Central Europe.IS-2 Heavy Tank takes the reader inside one of the Red Army's most distinctive late-war fighting vehicles, following its development from the problems of the KV series through design, production, combat service, crew experience, postwar modernization, and historical legacy.Written in the precise, accessible style of the Armored Legends Field Guide series, this volume connects technical features with the conditions that gave them meaning: factories, doctrine, ammunition supply, crew workload, maintenance, battlefield organization, and the realities faced by Guards heavy-tank regiments.Inside, you will discover: - How the IS-2 was created, including the KV-13 and IS-1 lineage, Object 240, and the revealing Soviet debate between 100 mm and 122 mm armament.- How the tank actually functioned as a fighting system, from armor and ammunition handling to observation, communications, mobility, survivability, and field maintenance.- How IS-2 units fought, with focused treatment of Soviet heavy-tank doctrine and campaigns from Ukraine and Sandomierz to East Prussia, Budapest, Poznan, Breslau, and Berlin.- How to recognize and understand its evolution, including production changes, early and late hull features, IS-2M modernization, surviving vehicles, markings, and useful details for modelers and enthusiasts.Along the way, documented evidence is separated from battlefield claims and later mythology, revealing details that are often lost in simple comparisons of gun caliber and armor thickness. The result is a compact but information-rich military history designed to leave the reader with a clearer understanding of how the IS-2 was designed, produced, crewed, supplied, fought, modified, and ultimately remembered. For tank enthusiasts, military-history readers, modelers, and anyone fascinated by Soviet armored warfare, this field guide offers the experience of seeing the IS-2 as more than a famous heavy tank-and understanding the wartime system that made it possible.…

Some armored vehicles are remembered for a single weapon, a famous battle, or an intimidating silhouette. The IS-2 rewards a deeper look. Its story reveals how the Soviet Union transformed hard-earned wartime lessons into a heavy tank built for breakthrough operations, fortified positions, urban combat, and the final offensives into Central Europe.
IS-2 Heavy Tank takes the reader inside one of the Red Army’s most distinctive late-war fighting vehicles, following its development from the problems of the KV series through design, production, combat service, crew experience, postwar modernization, and historical legacy.
Written in the precise, accessible style of the Armored Legends Field Guide series, this volume connects technical features with the conditions that gave them meaning: factories, doctrine, ammunition supply, crew workload, maintenance, battlefield organization, and the realities faced by Guards heavy-tank regiments.
Inside, you will discover:

How the IS-2 was created, including the KV-13 and IS-1 lineage, Object 240, and the revealing Soviet debate between 100 mm and 122 mm armament.

For tank enthusiasts, military-history readers, modelers, and anyone fascinated by Soviet armored warfare, this field guide offers the experience of seeing the IS-2 as more than a famous heavy tank—and understanding the wartime system that made it possible.
