4 3/4 inches x 7 3/4 in., title-page with copyright notice on the reverse. 269 pp. + [6]pp. Stringer & Townsend catalogue. 16 chapters, each with a printed synopsis. The early chapters take place in New Orleans, then in Paris, the South of France, Florence, Rome. Dark brown cloth with titling and designs gilt on the spine. blindstamped borders around the covers, light yellow endpapers. The spine ends show the cloth chipped away, cracking, to the spine cloth, wear to outer spine edges, cover corners, rubbing to covers, inner hinges are starting to crack, a few page corners have been formerly turned down. A very scarce book. With the bookplate of Cleveland, Ohio based book collector, William G. Mather (1857-1951), on the front paste-down end paper.
