Neuware - 'The House of the Temple' is a comprehensive historical and architectural study of the Auberge de Provence in Valletta, one of the most significant sites associated with the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. Frederick W. Ryan provides a detailed exploration of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, focusing on the Provence Langue and its administrative and social hub during the knights' tenure on the island. Through this work, the author captures the intersection of Mediterranean politics, religious devotion, and the grandeur of late medieval and early modern military orders. The narrative delves into the daily lives, internal structures, and cultural contributions of the knights who resided within the walls of this magnificent edifice. By examining the building's role as a center for the Order's activities, Ryan offers insights into the strategic importance of Malta as a frontier of Europe and the artistic legacy left behind by the Hospitallers. 'The House of the Temple' serves as an essential resource for readers interested in the history of the Crusades, Maltese heritage, and the enduring influence of the Knights of Malta on Western history. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
