A name can be a lifeline. For the kid who will become Leo, it's the first step toward a real life.

At school, a sharp-eyed English teacher and a classmate named Elena notice more than Leo says out loud. At home, danger grows until one night forces him out the door with a backpack and the truth he's been writing in the margins. Park benches and church basements come first; then a borrowed couch, a stubborn terrier, and a youth center where words turn into doors. As Leo finds work at a café-bookstore and tells Elena who he is, the world begins to meet him on his terms. He builds practical hope: a binder, a steady job, a haircut that feels like a mirror finally telling the truth, and an informed-consent clinic visit that becomes a quiet ritual of becoming. Along the way, a letter from his mother, a run-in in the grocery aisle, and a set of keys with his name on the lease teach him what a home actually is: people who choose you, and a future you can choose back.

Tender, unsentimental, and full of ordinary miracles, HOLDFAST is a love story-to chosen family, to the self, and to the long future Leo refuses to give up.
