While every citizen should havea general knowledge of the history of the State in which he lives, there are special reasons why this is true of those who dwell in any one of the thirteen original States. Theirs is the history of our country, of the formation of our govern ment, of the development of those institutions which every American loves. They are the parent States from whose union were begotten the whole sisterhood of the nation.
The American can point to no temples hoary with age. He has no heritage of storied castles where his ancestors banqueted and from which they rode away to the Crusades But he is a dweller in a land exceedingly rich in the triumphs of a race which, in possession of a broad, undeveloped land, with a unique destiny before it, has worked out that destiny in its own way, giving to the world an example of what may be done by a proud people, unfettered by kingly rule.
In all this New York has borne a most honorable and important part.
Moreover, there is in her case an additional reason for the study of State history. Within an area of only square miles there is a vast foreign-born population such as few other States possess. The children of these, educated in her free public schools.

Efectos del desistimiento

Excepciones al derecho de desistimiento
