Published by the Dai Nippon Tosho Kabushiki Kwaisha by order of the Department of Education, Tokyo, printed at the "Japan Mail" Office, Yokohama, 1893, 8vo (6 3/4 x 9 1/2 in - 17 x 21 cm), one quarter leather over cloth, leather tipped corners, title in gilt on spine, 1 color foldout map, 2 plans, 5 black and white collotype double page plates by K. Ogawa, 5 color double page woodblock plates, 18 black and white double page woodblock plates, 11 black and white single page woodblock plates, 428 pp. An important 19th century history of Japan produced under the authority of an Imperial commission. This book was ".intended for the use of visitors to the Japanese Section of the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, U.S.A, 1893." ~ Condition. The book is in Good+ condition. The hinges are weak but still holding. The head of the spine has a piece missing and both the head and foot of the spine are frayed. The joints are rubbed and the corners are bumped and worn. There is a small bookseller' sticker (Jiujiya Bookseller and Stationer, No. 5 Yatozaka, Yokohama) inside the front cover. On a fep there is an ink owner's inscription dated November, 1922. Internally very clean with no fault. There is a number sticker (No. 2416) inside the back cover. ~~ More information, to include digital pictures, available on request.
