“Hi, Baby! Let’s Chat!” Brain food for your baby When an adoring voice exclaims, “Hi, Baby! Let’s Chat!” a delightful, almost magical, love affair begins. Better yet, when you read aloud “Hi, Baby! Let’s Chat!” using your own baby’s name, you are sure to fall in love with your baby over and over again. What a wonderful way to get to know each other better while feeding your baby’s growing brain. We call it, “Brain food for your baby.” As a bonus, we have included “Baby Days,” your very own keepsake. These beautiful pages are designed for recording your baby’s vital statistics; inserting your baby’s footprints; locks of baby’s, mom’s and dad’s hair; family photos; parent notes; Baby’s Family Tree and those delightful firsts that occur during every baby’s first year. For instance, when your baby first rolls over, first crawls, first sits up, shows its first tooth, first walks and celebrates its first birthday! Before you know it, your Baby Days Keepsake will be filled with memories you will always cherish. I still have my own Baby Keepsake, including locks of my and my mother’s hair, photos of my family and my mom’s unforgettable hand-written notes. She even called me “Precious.” Tips for Parents When reading “Hi, Baby! Let’s Chat!” aloud to your baby: • Use your baby’s name wherever the word “Baby” appears in the story. • Act out the story! • Have fun chatting with your baby! Don’t forget, reading aloud to your baby from an early age will pay off for a lifetime. Brain food, indeed! Dr. Gary

Acerca del autor
Dr. Gary’s Biography I grew up in a housing project in South Baltimore. It was built during World War II for workers in the shipyards. My two best friends lived on each side of us. Believe it or not, all three of us went on to graduate from medical school and became doctors. Just three kids from the neighborhood. But before I found my way to medical school, I graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering. Then I went to work as an electrical engineer. Wanting to do more than sit behind a desk and do calculations on a slide rule, I quit my job, sold my car and went back to school. I hoped to earn enough pre-med credits to qualify for medical school. And that’s exactly what happened. After graduating from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1965 and completing my training in pediatrics, I served two years as a pediatrician in the Air Force. Then I took two years of training in neonatology (caring for seriously-ill newborns) at the Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati. When I completed my training in neonatology, it was 1972. I accepted an offer to head up the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron, Ohio. I worked there until 2007, taking care of seriously ill babies and their parents. A 35 year dream job come true. In 1997, I started writing a weekly medical column, “The Baby Beat,” for the Alliance Review, Alliance, Ohio’s daily newspaper. In 2016, after writing some 988 columns, I said goodbye in order to devote more time to writing children’s books and promoting the value of reading aloud to children. I love the characters in our award-winning series of five Leaping Larry Picture Books and the magical stories they tell me. Yes, it’s as if they are writing their own stories. Imagine that! And I love collaborating with Chris Sharp, who illustrates our children’s books. We recently completed the first two books in a new series of baby books: “Hi, Baby! Let’s Chat! and “Hi, Baby! Let’s Chat Some More!” Both are subtitled, “Brain food for your baby.” And to top it all off, I have three grown daughters, six terrific granddaughters and a wonderful wife, Cathy. Dr. Gary
