Attributed to Daniel Defoe by many accredited sources and catalogued as such by the Cleveland Special collection, the British Library, etc, etc, but published anonymously first in 1712. This is the Second Edition published two years later. 48pp strung pamphlet. This is as originally issued, or disbound from a collection? , the 'covers' are the title page and the last page, and , as one would expect for their age, slightly grubby, as are the edges. Rough-edged, and with different size pages as usual with a pamphlet of this date, the pamphlet is in VERY GOOD condition. Defoe even contributed articles to Jacobite journals of the day in an attempt to sabotage the movement. So convincing were some of his ironic pieces that he found himself prosecuted with promoting Jacobitism. Defoe openly acknowledged authorship of some anti-Jacobite Tracts in a letter to Robert Harley and in 'The Review'. Defoe was often a 'propagandist' faking conspiratorial letters to put the nation on its guard against Jacobites, and an 'agent provocateur' for Lord Oxford (Robert Harley 1661-1724). His desired end is always moderation and tolerance, his means - often questionable. ; 9565; 8vo. N° de ref. de la librería 9565
