Writing centers are places where writers work with each other in an effort to develop ideas, discover a thesis, overcome procrastination, create an outline, or revise a draft. Ultimately, writing centers help students become more effective writers. The Author: Richard Kent is Assistant Professor of Literacy and Director of the Maine Writing Project at The University of Maine. He received his Ph.D. in education from Claremont Graduate University. A former secondary school writing center director and high school English teacher, Kent is the author of six books.
