First edition, Near Fine in a Very Good dust jacket. Jacket is slightly faded at the spine, with a few nicks and short closed tears. Owner name to the front endpaper. Jacket is complete, with a few small chips, several short closed tears, and one 3-inch tear running down from the top left corner of the front panel. "The Michigan Kid," a story from this collection, was filmed twice: in 1928, directed by Irvin Willat and starring Renee Adoree, Fred Esmelton, Virginia Grey, and Conrad Nagel in the title role; and again in 1947, directed by Ray Taylor and starring Jon Hall in the title role, along with Rita Johnson, Victor McLaglen, and Andy Devine. Additionally, the title story, "The Goose Woman," was also filmed twice: one in 1925 directed by Clarence Brown and starring Louise Dresser, Jack Pickford, and Constance Bennett; and again in 1933 as The Past of Mary Holmes with Helen MacKellar, Eric Linden, and Jean Arthur. E. Alfeld (?), an appreciate and understanding reader. September 12, 1941. Hattie K. Amos" Some marginal notes in pencil, red pencil and fountain pen.
