Reasoning based on approximate or uncertain information is an essential human ability which should be adequately reflected in any intelligent system intended to emulate human behaviour. However, until recently the study of the field of fuzzy logic has only been seriously undertaken in Japan where it is widely applied. Europe and the USA are now beginning to increase their funding of fuzzy logic research and development. Reflecting this new interest, this volume attempts to cover virtually all main aspects of fuzzy logic and related topics.
