"In declaring the view in his autobiography that a library is a 'source of social education', Fung Ping Shan tangibly demonstrated his commitment to this philosophy and to the people of Hong Kong through his enormous generosity that led to the establishment of the Fung Ping Shan Library. - Peter E. Sidorko "What appealed to me most about him was his wish that his Chinese library was to serve and be open to the people of Hong Kong. If I may be allowed to use a contemporary expression, he wanted this to be a 'People's Library'. His was a vision that has yet to be fully realized. He gave his support for this Chinese culture library to Hong Kong's only university." - Anthony W Ferguson Cornelia (Nelly) Lichauco Fung was born and raised in the Philippines.
