Story Description: Diversity Is All Around
Diversity Is All Around is an educational children’s story that celebrates the fascinating diversity found within language. Through playful comparisons and familiar examples, young readers discover that words can sound alike while having completely different meanings. The story encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and an appreciation for the richness of communication.
The journey begins with a comparison between a lion’s majestic mane and the act of lying to avoid the truth. Although the words sound similar, they represent entirely different ideas. This introduces the book’s central theme: language is filled with words that may sound alike but have unique meanings and purposes.
As the story unfolds, readers encounter more examples of these linguistic connections. A computer virus, which infects electronic devices, is compared to a communicable virus that can make people sick. Though they share the same name, they exist in completely different worlds. This helps children understand that context determines meaning.
The story then introduces a little girl named Iris, whose name sounds exactly like the iris found inside the human eye. While one Iris is a child, the other iris is an important part of the body. This comparison shows how language can connect people and objects in surprising ways.
Additional examples continue the lesson. Children learn about a bat that flies through the night sky and a baseball bat used in sports. One soars beneath the moon, while the other helps players hit a ball. The story also explores bark, comparing the protective covering of a tree to the sound made by a dog.
A fun section introduces a small woman named Wendi, the windy weather outside, and Wendy’s restaurant where families can sit and dine. Although the words sound very similar, they represent a person, a weather condition, and a restaurant. This memorable example reinforces the book’s message in a way children can easily understand.
Throughout the story, readers learn that diversity exists not only among people and cultures but also within the words we use every day. Language becomes a celebration of variety, creativity, and discovery. The story teaches that differences make communication more interesting and meaningful.
Accompanied by engaging illustrations, the book visually demonstrates how similar-sounding words can represent entirely different things. Each page encourages discussion, vocabulary growth, and deeper thinking about language.
Ultimately, Diversity Is All Around reveals that uniqueness can be found everywhere. From lions and lies to bats and baseball bats, from Iris and the iris of the eye to Wendi, windy weather, and Wendy’s restaurant, the story shows that diversity is woven into everyday life. By embracing these differences, young readers gain a greater appreciation for language and the wonderfully varied world around them.

Descripción de la tienda
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
