His subsequent travels lead him to encounter the chaos of human desire from the perspective of a servile donkey. The most exquisite tale in this wonderful epic, as originally told by Lucius Apuleius, is the first known account of the marriage of Cupid and Psyche, which is perhaps the archetypal myth behind modern psychology. Inspired by The Golden Ass, Peter Oswald has written a riotous erotic comedy of love and desire, which premiered at the Globe Theatre, London in August 2002. This version is true to the original: in the words of C S Lewis is 'a strange compound of picaresque novel, horror comic, mystagogue's tract, pornography and stylistic experiment.'"
Acerca de los autores:
Lope de Vega (1562-1635), acknowledged as Spain's most lyrical and energetic dramatist, was a prolific and complusive writer. He treated an enormous range of subjects, often mingling comedy with tragedy, to the horror of the classicists, and defended his methods in his 'Arte nuevo de hacer comedias en este tiempe', published in 1609.
Nicholas Dromgoole's published work includes 'The Playwright as Rebel' (Oberon) and 'Sibley and Dowell', a portrait of one of the great dance partnerships of our time, as well as many introductions to volumes of classical and contemporary drama. For over thirty years hs was dance critic for the Sunday Telegraph and a regular contributor to other magazines and newspapers including The Times and Punch. He has lectured widely on drama and drama history and contributed to various arts broadcasts on radio and television
