“A tender, fearless chronicle of love, death, and the secret life of a marriage.” — Amazon Reader
During the week of mourning, Gil opens the blue crate his wife never let him unpack.
Inside, he finds her private poems—verses of passion, desire, and earlier loves.
The discovery shatters the silence she kept around her own wounds, and it hurls him into a storm of grief, jealousy, longing, and revelation. “Written by a man who loved her with his whole soul—
a healing we need more of in the world.”

Friend of My Mind unfolds in two intertwined movements:
Part I — Her Voice
He writes the letter she once wished she could write herself:
their love story as she might have told it.
Part II — His Voice
He retraces his own path toward love—what he calls careloving—while facing her illness, her death, and the truths he had never dared to ask.
As he journeys through Paris, Jamaica, Jerusalem, and America, he confronts the layers of distrust, family trauma, inequality, and gendered pain that shaped both of them.
“Love becomes literature
when one voice dares to speak for two.”
Friend of My Mind is an intimate dialogue between the living and the departed—a work about loving deeply, grieving honestly, and discovering that the greatest story is the one we dare to tell each other.
