Paperback. Two estranged brothers-one an elite synchronized diver concealing a career-ending injury, the other an auto plant shift supervisor guarding his crew from a predatory corporate purge-must both shatter the rigid armor that has kept them silent for seven years. At twenty-seven, Nate "Phoenix" Vincent is an Olympic silver medalist fighting joint degeneration, localized nerve blocks, and the ruthless scrutiny of a sports federation eager to replace him with younger talent. Paired with Jasper Wade, an explosive twenty-one-year-old former gymnast whose fierce loyalty rivals his raw athletic power, Nate pushes his body to the brink of permanent disability to defend his identity on the ten-meter platform.Three hundred miles away at the Lakeview Assembly Plant, Nate's younger brother, Calvin, bears the suffocating weight of family medical debt and executive hostility. Trapped in middle management under his cold, calculating uncle Maxwell, Calvin secretly loves shop steward Garrison "Garry" Hayes-a resilient, battle-hardened advocate fiercely devoted to his workers. When Calvin and Garrison uncover "Project Daedalus," a covert corporate plan to automate fifty-two veteran line hands out of their livelihoods, Calvin is forced into an agonizing moral crossroads: protect his corporate standing, or stand alongside the man he loves on the picket line. When their parallel battles collide during an explosive regional clinic, the long-buried trauma of their past breaks open. As the strike locks down the plant and the World Championship qualifiers approach, Nate and Calvin must confront the systems that treat them like expendable parts. From the breathless height of the ten-meter board to the frozen pavement of the strike line, The Friction of Emotion is a gripping, emotionally raw story of brotherhood, labor solidarity, queer romance, and the redemptive power of learning to land on your own terms. Three hundred miles away at the Lakeview Assembly Plant, Nate's younger brother, Calvin, bears the suffocating weight of family medical debt and executive hostility.
