This important book is "Foresight and Understanding : An Enquiry into the Aims of Science" by Stephen Toulmin. Its Foreword was written by Jacques Barzun. It was published as a Harper Torchbook in "The Science Library" in 1963, It is now Out of Print. (OP) The following is excerpted from Jacques Barzun's Foreword : " To know what science is, what it does, and how it affects other manifestations of mind is a task for the man who is at once critic, historian , and philosopher, and who has also been trained in one of the sciences as well as mathematics. Cover design by Ong Ching-Ching CONDITION -- VERY GOOD -- This is a previously owned book that remains clean and serviceable, with the following particulars noted : EXTERIOR " Slight dulling of spine; no reading crease to spine; surface rub is mild ; modest rub to spine joints; soft bumps to corner tips … else clean. BINDING : Solid INTERIOR : On the first page and the verso of the front cover share a minute tea stain (there is also a slight abrasion thereto); a few of the leaves have bumping to top fore-edge corner tips (this is very mild and hardly of effect) - else the interior is clean and unmarked - no underlining, writing, marginalia, or signatures.
