Full leather binding, black leather spine title label & gilt lines to spine, binding with minor scuffing, no cracks, 7 1/2 x 4 3/4 inches. 1850 owner's signature on front paste-down, a few notes elsewhere, lacking the front free end papers. 336 pp., one chapter with pencil notations throughout, foxing of varying darkness. Rev. Peter Bullions, D.D. (1791-1864), b. Moss Side, Scotland; d. Troy, New York. After completing his theological studies he emigrated to the United States in 1817. He was pastor of a Presbyterian church in Argyle, NY (1818-1824), until poor health forced his resignation. He became professor of languages in the Albany Academy, serving in that position until 1848. He was also pastor of the United Presbyterian Church in Troy, NY, overlapping his time as language professor (1832-1864). He wrote several textbooks on the classical languages.
