Hardcover. "The First Men in the Moon + the World Set Free and Short Stories" brings together some of the most visionary works by H.G. Wells, the legendary pioneer of speculative fiction. This collection showcases Wells's unparalleled ability to blend scientific imagination with high-stakes adventure and social commentary. In "The First Men in the Moon", readers follow the eccentric inventor Cavor and the ambitious Bedford on a daring journey to the lunar surface. Their encounter with the Selenites-a complex and chilling underground civilization-serves as a profound reflection on human nature and the ethics of imperial expansion. "The World Set Free" offers a hauntingly prophetic look at the dawn of the atomic age, envisioning a global conflict fueled by nuclear energy and the subsequent struggle to establish a unified world government.Rounding out this volume is a selection of Wells's celebrated short stories, each a masterpiece of the uncanny. From tales of cosmic catastrophe to groundbreaking technological marvels, these stories demonstrate Wells's mastery of the short form. This collection is essential for readers of classic literature, offering a deep dive into themes of exploration, scientific responsibility, and the future of humanity that remain remarkably relevant today. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
